Overdue Thank yous
Make • March 30th, 2009Besides thanking all of my friends and relatives who are so supportive of my recent endeavours as an artisan — some commenting on this blog, others looking and commenting the photos of my ongoing collection of creations, and others who have gone to the extreme of even buying items at my Etsy shop — I think it’s time to also say thank you to new friends and strangers who’ve been kind enough to feature some of my handmade work on their fine web sites.
Thank you Emma
Emma is a jewelry designer who, on top of keeping up with her Etsy shop, also features other Etsy artists on both of her blogs: Etsy in Spanish (written in Spanish), and Femmedetails (written in English). Recently, she published what she calls a charming interview about me and my work on her Spanish blog. A few of my peeps have read it, and made some very nice comments about it. I think they may have learned a few things they didn’t know about me. I have questions to answer. He! he!
Thank you Ria
I met Ria through Flickr. I love how she introduces herself as a mother and wife who is content with the ordinary and loves a simple life full of color, laughs, children and friends. Ria not only made nice comments about some of the clothes I’ve made for Joaquin… She also purchased a piece of my owl fabric, and then included me in two posts on her blog “Oddwise, Sewing for a boy”. I really like the concept of such blog. I think most mothers of boys feel the same way: Totally neglected by the children’s clothing industry which is totally geared towards girls. Hence we sew for our boys, because they also deserve cuteness and design.
Ria’s blog is new but I already love it. She shares her creations (she would so have a market, if she ever decided to sell), and features inspiring handmade work by others (not necessarily sellers). She’s been kind to feature Felix, the latest shirt I’ve finished for Joaquin, which is also available as a made–to–order item in my Etsy shop. And she also posted about my fabric and the project she has in mind for it. And you know, seeing the photo of her little boy sleeping, waiting for that duvet cover that my owls will be part of, makes me so happy to have met her, and honored that the little owl illustration I once made will have such nice destiny.
Thank You Pink Heart
I can’t remember how I found Your Heart Out, a very informative blog about great finds and happenings in Salt Lake City and its vicinity. I was loving finding out about all these wonderful bakeries and restaurants and shops I had no clue existed, and imagine my surprise when I realized that they have featured two of my handmade items on their Locals on Etsy shopping series. Both items are sold now (one to Petie, and one to Kim… he! he!), but I so appreciate the exposure both links may have cast upon my little shop.
