Mafe Maria: Personal stories by autism parent mentor, Maria Stultz

The Purpose of Zoning Out

Talked about this video with Jessica today. One more example of how all of us ism when we need to (e.g. zoning out, obsessing mentally about a situation, picking our fingers or biting our nails when we’re nervous), and it’s not a negative thing; it’s not of lesser value than being interactive… Just one more way of being in the moment, and it has a purpose. I relate a lot to what Katrina shares. When learning English in the U.S. I would often have days of fried brain and complete inability to articulate coherent thoughts… and then, next day BOOM: a quantum leap.
